Training

Blind in Business provide 3 unique training courses all over the UK which are completely free of charge.

  • 3,000 participants have so far benefited from our training courses and workshops.
  • Each training course and workshops have been run and developed over five years.
  • All course materials have been developed by blind and visually impaired people.

The training courses and workshops are:

Future Focus

Career planning for school children aged 14 to 18. We give young blind students an understanding of the skills, tools and competencies you need for any job. We focus on interview techniques and practice. Students are taken through the recruitment process so that they understand how to cope with a variety of assessments and tests that employers put potential employees through and they are shown how important it is to prepare for work at an early stage.

Total Technology

Introducing technology to make children aged 14 to 18 more informed customers of access technology. Participants are taken through simple steps to give them the knowledge to make technology purchasing decisions for themselves. Far too often children leave education and are not fully aware of their technology needs and the options available to them for the use in the home, education and the workplace. The unique structure of this course gives participants the chance to try and test technologies from a variety of suppliers who will be on hand to answer questions and provide support and advice.

Expectations Exceeded

A short workshop introducing parents, carers, teachers and young blind students to role models. These role models are blind and visually impaired computer programmers, lawyers and IT consultants. People who are doing the types of jobs their son or daughter may wish to pursue. We believe in widening opportunities for people - this workshop provides new ways of thinking about visual impairment and gives parents and teachers ideas on how to help young blind people work towards their goals in a positive way.

How are the courses arranged?

Courses are arranged with the help of teachers from schools, colleges or local VI Services. We simply ask those organising the training courses or workshops to get in contact with the participants and make sure they can attend the course on a set date, time and venue.

All we ask is that you provide a venue and refreshments.

Each course is adapted to give a unique training experience for all participants and we are happy to work with other organisations to disseminate our positive approach to more people.

We encourage people to get in touch if they wish to know more and book a course in your region.

Mentoring Scheme

We run this service with small groups of children all over the UK helping them to achieve their goals.  Currently there are groups from Birmingham to London.

A-Level Scheme

Helping A-level students make the right decisions regarding their future. For example, we recently funded students going on Gap Year Programmes around the world, workly with the Vica Charity Ltd. We have also helped people into education or help them make important career decisions. The people we work with dictate the help they need from us and we outline how we can best suit their invidividual needs. Some people are at College or others are out of education and looking for work. This is another free service offered by Blind in Business.
