About us
Blind in Business is a small charity based in the City of London. We help young blind students to develop the confidence to think about further education and perhaps University to lead them to good careers, through our Training Service. We help blind graduates towards very good jobs through our Employment Service.
The Training Service runs a series of training courses and workshops for blind students between the ages of 14-18. We help them to construct, implement and develop a personal career action plan and introduce them to the latest specialist IT technology. We work with them, their parents and teachers to overcome traditional stereotypes and low expectations. We also run a Mentoring Scheme, which helps young blind students to choose between specialist and mainstream education and introduces them to successful blind role models in the workplace.
The Employment Service helps young blind graduates into work. The graduates are given CV advice, help with filling application forms, interview practise and are guided through the Access to Work Scheme. We read for our candidates at Assessment Centres and transcribe Assessment papers and tests into Braille if necessary. We work with Employers to adapt and modify their recruitment process to make it easier for visually impaired people to apply for those jobs. We provide Awareness Training and give Employers the confidence to take on visually impaired graduates.
Blind in Business was founded a decade ago by three blind law graduates. All three are Trustees on our Board and have a close interest in our charitable activities.
